Our Eagan dental practice offers tooth crowns for teeth affected by deep cavities, injuries like a broken or cracked tooth, fractures, or root canal therapy.
Dr. Michael uses dental crowns to protect a weakened tooth when composite fillings or dental bonding cannot eliminate the risk of tooth infection or further damage. Most dental crowns today are created from dental-grade ceramic and are ideal for protecting and restoring your compromised tooth for a few reasons:

You can actually think of this time-tested restoration as a type of “bridge.” Treatment involves placing crowns on two natural teeth and using those crowns as supports for one or more artificial teeth between them. Bridges offer a very natural-looking and reliable solution to tooth loss. Receiving tooth replacement treatment, such as a dental bridge, is crucial to maintaining your oral health.
In addition to a less aesthetic appearance, leaving gaps in your smile after experiencing tooth loss can lead to:

You will need a minimum of two dental visits to prepare your tooth for a permanent bridge or dental crown in Eagan. At the first visit, Dr. Michael will examine and prepare the natural tooth or teeth and take impressions to create the final restoration. Preparing your natural tooth involves removing parts of the outer tooth and shaping it to fit the final crown or bridge snugly. We also place a temporary restoration at this point until a master ceramist completes the permanent one.
After two to three weeks, once the dental lab completes the permanent crown or bridge, cementing it to the tooth is the last step. After Dr. Michael removes the temporary crown, he will further shape the natural tooth to ensure a precise fit with the new restoration. We apply a special dental cement inside the crown and add a bonding agent around the natural tooth. He will then shape the outer area of the crown or bridge to ensure an even, natural bite.
Once we have placed your dental crown or bridge, it’s essential to maintain it so you can ensure the best longevity possible. To keep it in good condition, brush and floss your teeth regularly and see us at Eagan Dental Care for routine dental cleanings and exams.
During your exams, we can check the status of your crown or bridge and ensure it’s clean and undamaged. Keeping your anchor teeth clean and plaque-free is the key to longevity for your dental bridge.
Also, limit your consumption of hard or crunchy foods, like popcorn, that could damage the crown or your natural teeth. And if you have a bad habit, like chewing on your nails, teeth grinding, or chewing on ice, discuss your problem with Dr. Michael. If you grind your teeth while sleeping, he may recommend a night guard for protection.
